"It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for."

Calvary Presbyterian Church began its Advent season on Sunday, Nov. 30 and will continue each Sunday through Dec. 21, culminating with the Christmas Eve service.

The church will explore the classic story of “The Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens and “The Redemption of Scrooge” from Worship Design Studio, created by Marcia McFee.

Advent is observed in anticipation of Christmas.

Sunday, Nov. 30

Sermon: First Sunday of Advent – “Bah Humbug, Who Needs Peace?”

“A Christmas Carol” takes place in England in the 1800’s which was a time of great divide between rich and poor, something on which Dickens wanted to shed a light. The main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, believes the only redeeming value in life is in making more money. He lives in resentment, fear and isolation as he focuses only on himself. Is there any redemption for Scrooge?

Sunday, Dec. 7

Sermon: Second Sunday of Advent – “The Ghost of Christmas Past: Bah Humbug, Who needs Hope?”

Pastor Carie Stanley will explore how to find hope in the midst of the world’s uncertainty.

Sunday, Dec. 14

Sermon: Third Sunday of Advent – “The Ghost of Christmas Present: Bah Humbug, Who needs Joy?”

Sunday, Dec. 21

Sermon: Fourth Sunday of Advent – “This Ghost of Christmas Future: Bah Humbug, Who needs Love?”

The sermon will explore how fear can be transformed to joy.
